Development Director

 Job Description        

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Development Director, is responsible for the design, execution, management, and expansion of Mid-City CAN’s fundraising program. This position builds and strengthens connections to potential and existing donors to increase revenue. This position works to plan and execute strategies that include but may not be limited to; donor-related events, cultivating new donors, writing grants, and stewarding gifts. This position is part of a leadership team and works to align fundraising efforts with Mid-City CAN’s communication and advocacy strategies with an eye toward long-term revenue growth.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Bachelor or master degree in nonprofit leadership or management, or Masters in Business Administration, or commesurate experience in development with an established track record of success • 3+ years of development or sales experience, including individual gifts and grant writing • Experience developing goals for budgets over $1M • Engaging storyteller who can drive personal connection to Mid-City CAN’s mission, vision, and values • Exceptional writing and proofreading skills; ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a wide variety of audiences through various mediums (verbal, print, online) • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to maintain professionalism and exude a positive attitude • Ability to work with and maintain positive relationships with diverse constituencies and sensitivity in dealing with diversity issues including race, gender, sexual orientation, range of economic positions • Has entrepreneurial zeal and a growth mindset

Mid-City Community Advocacy Network (Mid-City CAN), fiscally sponsored by Mission Edge San Diego, is a community collaborative comprised of thousands of partners including residents of City Heights, businesses, schools, faith and cultural organizations, and public and private agencies. Mid-City CAN’s mission is to build a safe, productive, and healthy community through collaboration, advocacy, and organizing. In its 29th year, Mid-City CAN plays an essential role in the community of City Heights and in the San Diego Region by facilitating dialogue, identifying common issues, spearheading advocacy efforts, and training residents to take leadership roles in affecting change.
