Volunteer Coordinator

 Job Description        

JOB PURPOSE The Volunteer Coordinator supervises volunteers and provides direction, coordination and consultation for all volunteer functions of the agency with the goal of 1) strengthening programs, and 2) Educating the community about OHV 3) Work directly with the Director of Resource Development to build partnerships and increase community awareness. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Recruitment and Selection of Volunteers Develop and apply effective strategies to recruit the appropriate volunteers with the right skills for the various programs. Identify community outreach opportunities such as fairs, festivals, local markets and organizations. Serve as the main point of contact for all volunteers and volunteer inquiries Maintain an up-to-date schedule of volunteer opportunities on the agency website and published on social media Complete relevant background checks New Volunteer Orientation Maintain the orientation kit and volunteer handbook. Conduct regular volunteer orientation sessions with assistance from staff. Perform evaluation of orientation programs, and use this data to improve delivery of orientation programming. Volunteer Training and Development Communicate clearly with staff the timeline and expectations for incoming volunteers prior to their arrival to reduce/minimize confusion and problems for on duty staff and shelter clients. Ensure that volunteers are given appropriate training prior to the start of their assignment, serve as liaison for volunteer on first day of service in order to eliminate any possible confusion and to provide the best possible volunteer experience. Provide regular updates and communication to volunteers on developing/changing shelter information which may impact volunteer service Provide periodic training to staff on how to work effectively and cooperatively with volunteers Manage the Volunteer Program Establish and implement a process for evaluating the contribution of individual volunteers Evaluate all aspects of volunteer programs to ensure effectiveness and to recommend/implement changes as appropriate Coordinate year round meal service at the shelter to ensure a healthy meal each night of the week including holidays and special events. Ensure that volunteers work in a safe, healthy, and supportive environment in accordance with all appropriate legislation and agency policies. Rewards and Recognition Plan and implement formal and informal volunteer recognition activities to recognize the contributions of volunteers to the organization Develop and implement multiple ways to recognize and reward volunteer efforts Promote the recognition program through the newsletter, social media, and other existing communication methods Performs all other duties and activities as assigned. OHV considers this position to be a mandated reporter of elder and child abuse.

 

 Qualifications        

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED BA in communications, public relations or related field, or significant relevant career experience. Supervisory experience Must be accurate and efficient, high energy, comfortable performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities Strong oral and written communication skills. Superior interpersonal and coaching skills including patience and ability to work well with volunteers at all levels Demonstrated ability to successfully participate on senior management teams that provide leadership and strategic direction Evidence of the practice of a high level of confidentiality and excellent organization skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Proficiency in the use of computers for: Word processing Financial management E-mail Internet SCHEDULE A flexible and adaptive work week of 40 hours. This will include evenings, and weekends hours to accommodate activities such as Board meetings, representing the organization at community and special events.
