Social Media Intern

 Job Description        

Do you have a talent for writing and love posting to social media?! Help promote literacy advocacy online! We are looking for a tech-savvy intern to assist the Office & Communication Coordinator in drafting posts for various Words Alive social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Linked In). Additionally, the Social Media Intern will have the opportunity to create long-form writing pieces such as email blasts, blog posts, press releases, etc. We are looking for someone with a natural talent for writing, familiarity with social media trends, and a reliable work ethic. SOCIAL MEDIA INTERNS WILL BE TASKED WITH: •Writing draft copy for social media platforms •Suggesting content for social media platforms; brainstorming and strategizing messaging •Creating monthly analytics reports for each platform and providing insight into how Words Alive can increase reach and engagement via social media •Drafting and editing blog posts, emails, and press releases on occasion

 

 Qualifications        

IDEAL INTERNS WOULD: •Be competent in written and verbal English communication •Have experience with writing •Have familiarity with all common social media platforms •Be an organized, efficient, and dedicated self-starter •Be able to work with minimal supervision •Be comfortable working within deadlines •Have reliable transportation

 

 Additional Information        

HOURS AND LOCATION: Interns will work remotely and at the Words Alive office located at 5111 Santa Fe St. Suite 219, San Diego, CA 92109. Interns can expect to commit 5-7 hours/week. Words Alive will work with the intern to accommodate class schedules and for-credit requirements. *Start/end dates are flexible. REQUIRED PAPERWORK AND TRAINING: Successful candidates will need to submit a completed volunteer application and resume to Erin Rexin at erin@wordsalive.org and attend a new volunteer orientation. In addition, please send a short writing sample of one tweet and one Facebook post describing Words Alive’s mission, to Sara Mortensen at sara@wordsalive.org.
