Grant Writer

 Job Description        

Feeding San Diego is seeking a motivated and experienced person for a Grant Writer position for its two-person grant writing team. Reporting to the Corporate & Foundation Relations Manager, the Grant Writer will be responsible for generating grant proposals, applications and progress reports, and researching, identifying, and responding to public and private grant opportunities in food bank operations, technology, capital assets and other related areas. Qualified candidates should possess excellent writing, computer and database management skills. The candidate must be highly organized, use independent judgement and produce a quality product within time constraints. Experience must include a demonstrated record of securing new and renewed funding, a comprehensive knowledge of prospect research and the grants process, and the ability to identify funding opportunities for the organization’s general operations and volunteer department, warehouse, distribution and procurement practices.

 

 Qualifications        

The ideal candidate will have a background in grants writing or coordination. The candidate should have a genuine interest in non-profit development and a demonstrated ability to raise funds. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in business or public administration, communications, English or a closely related field, and a minimum of 3 years of professional experience in grant writing and coordination preferred OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.

 

 Additional Information        

• Research, evaluate, identify and maintain a comprehensive list of prospective grantors • Prepare and submit grant solicitations to a portfolio of approximately 100 funders annually • Monitor incoming gifts to identify restricted and unrestricted grants to ensure accurate gift entry and to initiate the award cycle • Prepare tax acknowledgement letters and submit grant contracts in a timely and appropriate manner • Maintain the grants activity calendar (i.e., cross-functional deliverables, proposal and report deadlines and cultivation objectives) • Monitor grants’ stipulations and liaise with Feeding San Diego staff, and disseminate restricted grant compliance terms, to ensure Operations department performance remains consistent with stated outcomes in proposals • Co-coordinate and facilitate grants management meetings monthly, with programs, operations and finance staff to monitor performance and expenses and assess new grant opportunities
