 Job Description        

Laboratory/Department: Events Coordination The Events Coordination department coordinates the logistics for events that support the Salk Institute community. Position Description: Position is responsible for successful execution of all events on the Salk Institute campus including onsite staffing as needed. Responsible for ensuring completion of all tasks associated with setting, serving and breaking down of events in function rooms in accordance with written or verbal instructions. Present and promote a positive image at all functions. Works closely with the Events Operations Lead and other Events personnel to coordinate purchase and maintenance of stocked inventory. Must be able to facilitate events independently after training period concludes.



Education: High School diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and/or relevant work experience required. Experience: Preferred: • One year of experience as a banquet captain or related operations position, performing all aspects of meeting room setup and breakdown, including but not limited to: setting up tables and chairs, linens and drapes, washing dishes, and related physical activities. • Work experience in a large (500+ employees) organization in a position requiring interface with internal and external clients.


 Additional Information        

Special Requirements: • Must be willing to work in an animal-related research environment. • Must be able to work a flexible schedule based on workload and deadlines including overtime as needed on evenings and weekends. Evening hours typically end by 8:00 p.m. but could run later. • Must have valid California driver’s license and must be willing to submit to a background investigation including motor vehicle review. • Must be of legal age to purchase and/or serve alcohol. • Post offer physical required. Incumbent must acquire a Food Handler’s Certificate prior to start of work. Willing to sign an employee confidentiality agreement. Physical Requirements: This position requires constant seeing, adjusting focus, touching/feeling, grasping, talking, hearing, handling, lifting 0-20 pounds, pushing 0-20 pounds, reading, reasoning and communicating.
