Development Coordinator

 Job Description        

Reporting to and in partnership with the Executive Director (ED), the Development and Grants Coordinator has the primary responsibility for the development and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising plan and overseeing Grant applications. The Development and Grants Coordinator will expand and implement strategy for philanthropy, build and maintain relationships for long-term philanthropic support, and manage fund raising elements for the San Diego Model Railroad Museum. As this is a new position in the organization, the Development and Grants Coordinator will have the opportunity to build the development function within the organization. Major Responsibilities: • Identify, research, and solicit potential sources of gift support to ensure that annual fundraising goals are met. • Provide leadership to a team of staff and volunteers to develop and implement the San Diego Model Railroad Museum’s fund development plan. • Plan and direct the contact of potential donors with direct appeals for gifts, identifying the appropriate volunteer where necessary, • Implement a donor-centered fund-raising program that includes annual giving, other individual gifts, major gifts, corporate/foundation funding, Government and Foundation Grant, and planned giving. • Develop and implement new fund raising strategies and activities, including e-giving. • Serve as Staff Advisor to the fundraising committee of the board. • Administrative and support staff. • Developing and tracking proposals and reports for all foundation and corporate fundraising. Other Responsibilities • Cross-functional team leadership and key member of SDMRM’s team. • Develop personnel (staff/volunteers) in fund development strategies to increase revenues and strengthen the positive image of the San Diego Model Railroad Museum. • Recruit, where necessary, and train volunteers in all fund raising divisions (board, lead gifts, leadership gifts, major gifts and community) to make effective gift approaches. • Become active in the community through membership and/ or participation in appropriate community organizations. • Assist and coordinate all communications materials related to fundraising to assure that the materials are effective, produced on time and meet budget requirements. •Perform other duties as assigned.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in major gift fundraising • Experience in fund development, preferably in a mission driven nonprofit setting. •Strong leadership and staff development skills. Ability to plan, organize and direct fundraising organization activities. •Must be able to write inspirational proposal/philanthropic case for donors outlining programs. •Must be personable, articulate, and diplomatic and be skilled in asking for major gift donations in personal and in writing. •Excellent oral and motivation skills required •Experience working with volunteers is important. •Proven fundraising track record in a comprehensive shop that includes Annual Giving, Planned giving, and donor stewardship. • Demonstrated “self-starter” with a” roll up your sleeves” approach. •Demonstrated commitment to philanthropy. •Bi-lingual in English and Spanish is preferred. •Current California Driver’s License, valid auto insurance, and has access to a vehicle on a daily basis.
