Support Specialist Part Time

 Job Description        

What a Support Specialist Does -Develop rapport with youth, specifically youth that are difficult to engage to support a long-term permanency plan for the youth. -Work in collaboration with the Family Engagement Specialists as part of the Permanency Team for identified youth. -Conduct outreach to County and community partners. -Keep well-written, concise case notes to include date, time and place of meetings for each participant, and any contacts made with other service providers and family members; entered in approved database. -Collaborate with treatment teams, including County Partners at Child Welfare Services/Probation and other providers, keeping them informed of progress and challenges as necessary. -Attend trainings related to Family Finding and apply findings from research on Family Finding best practices. -Maintain professional behavior at all times, appropriately representing YMCA's mission and philosophy.

 

 Qualifications        

What We Look for in a Support Specialist- Peer Advocate -Must have personal, lived experience in the foster care system. -Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. -Familiarity with foster youth/former foster youth and juvenile justice involved youth required. -Ability to quickly build rapport with clients and good interpersonal skills required. -Display sensitivity to the service population's cultural and socioeconomic characteristics. -Ability to work as a team player with a diverse population. -Experience working directly with youth families and demonstrated understanding of the challenges they are experiencing as a result of recent Child Welfare and/or Probation system involvement. -Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule including early evenings and occasional weekends. -Must be an adult role model with the ability to effectively set limits and function in crisis-oriented and high stress situations.
