Fundraising & Development Intern

 Job Description        

Millie's Bookshelf is a nonprofit organization in San Diego, CA dedicated to ensuring that displaced people worldwide have access to adequate reading resources. In 2019, Millie’s will conduct its pilot program in Mafraq, Jordan at the Za’atari Refugee Camp. This project will involve the construction of a small-scale reading installation (approximately 400-600 books) at the JHAS Women and Girls Comprehensive Center. The installation will be accompanied by a year-long refugee-led reading program for the children of teen mothers in the camp. The Fundraising & Development Intern will be responsible for seeking out nonprofit grants, developing a donor database, and implementing creative fundraising events and partnerships.  Qualifications        

• Previous experience in grant writing or fundraising • Majoring in public health, international relations, international development or related subjects • Enrolled in an academic degree program (undergraduate or graduate) & receiving credit for internship (REQUIRED) • Comfortable working remotely – must be self-driven and able to meet deadlines with minimal supervision • Possesses strong organizational, research, writing, and communications skills • Experienced or interested in working with refugee populations

 

 Additional Information        

Specific Responsibilities • Develop a grant calendar and proactively identify new funding opportunities in the startup nonprofit space • Manage the donor database and research best practices for donor retention and engagement • Work with university and local groups to facilitate community fundraisers for Millie’s Za’atari program • Identify opportunities for in-kind donations and draft requests to local companies • Draft and submit grant proposals
