 Job Description        

The Institutional Giving Assistant will: -Become knowledgeable about SDYS’ current foundation, government and corporate funders; the programs they support and their funding priorities; grant proposal formats, preparation, submission, reporting and administrative requirements; SDYS’ programs and how institutional donors could potentially support them -Write letters of intent, grant applications and reports; prepare budgets; compile all required grant materials -Maintain accurate records of institutional funder contact information and grant activity -Maintain grants calendar to ensure timely submission of letters of inquiry, grant applications and reports -Conduct research to identify potential institutional funders and prioritize the probability of their support -Assist with stewarding current funders -Perform other projects/duties as assigned



-Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, nonprofit management or related field -At least two years of office-related experience, preferably with a nonprofit organization -Strong writing, grammar and editing skills -Exceptional organizational skills to track multiple deadlines and requirements that vary among funders -Experience with preparing budgets -Familiarity with assessment and evaluation methods -Proficient with MS Word, Excel and Adobe -Acrobat on a PC platform, as well as Google -Suite equivalents and database systems -Positive attitude and team player -Knowledge of and experience in music or arts education a plus

The San Diego Youth Symphony and Conservatory (SDYS) is seeking a part-time Institutional Giving Assistant to provide day-to-day support of SDYS’ program and fundraising goals by researching potential government, foundation and corporate funders; writing compelling case statements; preparing grant proposals and reports; and maintaining the grant calendar and database. S/he is responsible to the Institutional Giving Manager in a busy, team environment. The ideal candidate will not only have proven writing, research and organizational skills and be familiar with nonprofit budgets, but will also be committed to our core values of inclusiveness, personal achievement, and community leadership.
