Grant Writing Internship

 Job Description        

SUMMARY The Grant Writing Intern is responsible for researching grant opportunities and preparing and submitting materials required by local and national grant-makers under the supervision of the Director of Development. This is an exciting opportunity for a student or aspiring fundraising professional with excellent writing skills to gain experience preparing high-quality grant proposals and work as a valued member of a development team that raises more than $2.5 million annually. RESPONSIBILITIES •Conduct research on available grant opportunities using Foundation Directory Online, FoundationSearch, and other online resources. •Prepare and submit corporate and foundation grant proposals and reports. •Work with project leads and the Business Data Manager to request information for grant proposals and reports. •Keep careful records to track proposals, reports, and grant decisions. •Input grant-related data and contact records in the donor database (DonorPerfect). •Help develop and execute donor stewardship strategies for corporate and foundation grant-makers. •Any other writing and fundraising tasks which may be assigned.



EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE •Bachelor’s degree or current undergraduate student in English, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or related field. •Previous experience in an office setting preferred. SKILLS •Excellent persuasive writing ability. •Strong command of spelling, grammar, syntax, and punctuation. •Ability to conduct research and cite sources. •Strong commitment to the ethics and purpose of Serving Seniors. •Ability to use good judgment and maintain confidentiality. •Ability to work independently, multitask, and set priorities to meet deadlines. •Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner and exercise sound judgment in decision-making. •Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). •Must be able to work from Serving Seniors’ administrative office in East Village, San Diego.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Work Environment: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to normal risks of working in an office environment (e.g., risks due to heavy computer use).
