Grant Writer

 Job Description        

This position generates revenue for Housing Commission programs and services through the timely submission of well-researched, well-written and well-documented grant proposals; coordinates all prospective and pending grant applications and reports for the Agency; researches and identifies new funding opportunities to support Housing Commission programs and services. Works with the Executive Team and Program Managers to provide training and coordination of grant applications. Works with our Finance and Accounting department and program staff to develop budgets for each proposal. Maintains impeccable application file records. Establishes and maintains positive relationships with current and potential funding agency staff.

 

 Qualifications        

Critical thinking, outstanding writing; computer and database management skills. Must be highly organized with the ability to implement systems and processes, work under pressure, use independent judgment and produce high quality work within tight time constraints. Comprehensive knowledge of research and the ability to identify and align funding opportunities with complex programs; and working knowledge of federal, state and local affordable housing programs. Personal Characteristics: Honest, loyal, hardworking, sincere, passionate, strong attention to detail, “can-do” attitude that combines initiative, sense of urgency and a commitment to results. Is goal and results oriented, personally motivated, and listens well. Embraces accountability and displays a sense of ownership in their work. Able to work flexible hours to meet submission deadlines. Has leadership skills and can work independently with good judgment. Is a team player who not only focuses on their own area but is aware of the needs of others and acts as a resource and supports the needs of all departments. Education and License Requirements: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in business, communications, public administration, or a related field and three (3) years of proven experience in successful grant writing and demonstrated record in securing new funding opportunities and working with a collaborative team. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Driver’s License by time of appointment.

 

 Additional Information        

SDHC works under a 9/80 Compressed Work Schedule, offices are closed every other Friday. Note: Job offers are contingent upon successfully completing the pre-employment process including back ground check, drug screen, physical and applicable job related procedures.
