Economic and Urban Development Director

 Job Description        

Position Summary: The Director of Economic and Urban Development will oversee the economic development and affordable housing programs of CHCDC. The director will have a unique opportunity to help shape CHCDC’s economic and community development direction and strategies needed to assist the City Heights’ business and housing sectors to grow and thrive. Principal Duties: The Director of Economic and Urban Development will work with community stakeholders to encourage, coordinate and implement community-oriented development strategies in City Heights. Major responsibilities include small business acceleration, oversight of community development and housing programs, supervision of CHCDC program managers.



•MA in a related field or BA with equivalent relevant work experience •A minimum of three years community development experience, in a senior management capacity. •Demonstrated personal/professional alignment with organizational mission •Capacity to work with minimum supervision and be proactive in completing daily tasks. •Ability to think, assess and act decisively in handling multiple tasks concurrently. •Strong organizational, problem-solving and analytical skills. •Highly attentive to detail, quality and accuracy •Computer fluency in Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as reasonable proficiency in other management software. •Proficiency in a second language other than English


 Additional Information        

Required Knowledge and Experience: •Knowledge of City Heights or other similarly disadvantaged communities. •Strong understanding of community/urban, economic and workforce development •Familiarity with City of San Diego, CDFI and small business development programs and Special Districts (MAD, BIDs, PBIDs, CFD) •Experience managing public sector contracts •Experience working in diverse LMI communities •Experience with grant-writing and fund development. •Knowledge of program budget preparation and financial report preparation and analysis •Demonstrated ability to motivate, train and evaluate staff. •Personal attributes include: cultural awareness and sensitivity; flexibility and adaptability to change; collaborative and collegial workstyle; an open-minded and supportive approach to leadership; dedication and commitment to the mission of CHCDC and serving the needs of disadvantaged families.
