 Job Description        

The Teaching Artist role is the instructor for La Jolla Playhouse Education and Outreach programs in the schools and community. Our team of Teaching Artists are experienced in creating safe learning environments to foster 21st Century skills, modeling positive behavior, and supporting participant accomplishments. The Teaching Artists interact with school administrators and teachers and are responsible for all daily program goals. Candidates must be committed to on-going professional development as an arts practitioner and educator and participate in La Jolla Playhouse community events. La Jolla Playhouse Teaching Artist residencies include one of the following educational tracts: Arts for Arts Sake – The arts are taught as a single subject area. E.g. Theatre, Music, Dance, Visual Arts, Media Arts Arts Enrichment- The arts are used as a component in a specific units of study. E.g.  Qualifications        

This is a Part-time, contract position; Teaching Artists should have demonstrated experience in theatre arts, be active members of the theatre community and be passionate about teaching school-aged children in public and private school settings.

The Playhouse’s brilliant and innovative productions of new plays and musicals, including 75+ world premieres, 44 commissions and 38 American or West Coast premieres, have merited over 300 major honors, including 35 Tony Awards for its 28 productions that have transferred to Broadway, and the Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre.
