About Francis Parker School: Francis Parker School is a coeducational independent day school in San Diego, California with 1300 students in grades JK-12. Founded in 1912, the school’s mission is “to create and inspire a diverse community of independent thinkers whose academic excellence, global perspective and strength of character prepare them to make a meaningful difference in the world”. Overlooking Mission Valley, two separate campuses serve students in Lower School – junior kindergarten through 5th grade; Middle School – 6th grade through 8th grade and Upper School – 9th grade through 12th grade. As a college preparatory school Parker offers a comprehensive program that includes twenty-five advanced placement courses as well as a rich palette of electives – all designed to meet the individual needs of our students. Job Description: Parker is immediately seeking a dynamic Head of Finance and Operations/Chief Financial Offer (CFO) to oversee all financial and operational activities related to the School’s $37 million budget, including leadership and managerial oversight for a staff of approximately 30 employees (9 direct reports) across the following functional areas: accounting and finance; facilities; food services; human resources, purchasing; rentals and other auxiliary programs; risk management; and transportation. In partnership with the Head of School, the CFO provides the Board of Trustees with financial and other pertinent information necessary for making key decisions. The CFO works with a broad group of external and internal constituencies, including trustees, parents, advisors/consultants, vendors, and colleagues.

 

 Qualifications        

Essential Duties/Responsibilities: of Trustees, including the Audit Committee, Compensation Committee, Finance Committee, and Investment Committee • Serve as a member of various internal committees, including the Administrative Leadership Team (ALT), the Financial Assistance Committee, and the 403(b) Investment Committee • Oversee the work of the Controller, Director of Finance, Director of Human Resources, Director of Maintenance, Director of Risk and Asset Management, Director Information Technology, Director of Summer and Extended Day Programs, Manager of Purchasing and Director of Transportation • Manage audit, banking, broker, food service, investment, pension, and other key external relationships • Prepare the annual operating and capital budgets • Generate financial reports and provide other information to facilitate decision-making • Prepare long-range financing planning models • Ensure the timely completion of the annual audit and 990 tax returns • Implement an effective system of internal controls • Design risk mitigation programs to promote a safe and secure environment • Maintain appropriate levels of property and liability coverage • Assist the Head of School with decisions related to compensation and benefits for faculty and staff • Negotiate agreements for health benefits and outsourced services (e.g., food service) • Provide support to the Head of School and the Board of Trustees related to strategic initiatives • Establish processes for effective cash management, including investment of operating cash, reserve funds, and endowment. • Manage personnel practices to ensure compliance with labor laws • Coordinate major projects involving the School’s facilities and campus. Qualifications: • At least 10 years of experience in a financial/operations role at an organization of similar size, preferably in both for-profit and non-profit environments • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration – a C.P.A., M.B.A. or a master’s degree in a related field is desirable • Proven track record managing the finances of a complex organization • Prior experience managing facilities, human resources, and other support functions • Hands-on experience with non-profit fund accounting and endowment management a plus • Analytical, detail-oriented, organized, and passionate about continuous process improvement • A respectful, open, and collaborative management style characteristic of a team player • Results-driven leadership skills with the ability to develop and implement clear, action-oriented strategies and plans • Business acumen and judgment to make practical, data-driven, and timely decisions • Demonstrated success in developing and cultivating relationships with diverse constituencies • Impeccable communication skills to ensure that information is shared in a clear, transparent, and timely manner • Flexible mindset with the ability to adapt to shifting priorities • Uncompromising integrity
