About Francis Parker School: Francis Parker School is a coeducational independent day school in San Diego, California with 1300 students in grades JK-12. Founded in 1912, the school’s mission is “to create and inspire a diverse community of independent thinkers whose academic excellence, global perspective and strength of character prepare them to make a meaningful difference in the world”. Overlooking Mission Valley, two separate campuses serve students in Lower School – junior kindergarten through 5th grade; Middle School – 6th grade through 8th grade and Upper School – 9th grade through 12th grade. As a college preparatory school Parker offers a comprehensive program that includes twenty-five advanced placement courses as well as a rich palette of electives – all designed to meet the individual needs of our students. Job Description: The Director of Transportation is responsible for the daily supervision of drivers and mechanics. This fast-paced position combines a variety of daily activities requiring personal adaptability, strong time management, active problem solving, and consistent leadership.

 

 Qualifications        

Essential Duties/Responsibilities: • Lead and manage all daily transportation services, systems, communications and personnel • Ensure safe and efficient operations of buses, drivers, and riders • Communicate and collaborate effectively with external and internal entities, including departmental personnel, parents, and school administrators • Develop and support a strong professional leadership environment among drivers and mechanics, with scheduled performance reviews and evaluation of job expectations, counseling, recognition & discipline, as appropriate • Assess accidents, incidents, and complaints. Conduct accident investigations. Oversee legal, state, and local reporting responsibilities. • Manage the mechanic with responsibility and accountability ensuring integrity of buses in accordance with local, state, and federal guidelines • Assist in developing an annual departmental budget, and oversee departmental spending and purchasing • Work collaboratively with administrative and instructional staff to assess operational and program needs and their effectiveness • Evaluate, recommend, and implement departmental improvements to procedures, processes, personnel, systems, budget, and general administrative activities • Comply with school policies and procedures • Establish safe and efficient transportation routes • Review and respond to passenger behavioral concerns • Interview, select, and train applicants to maintain staffing level • Prepare accurate billing information for class field trips and sports trips • Provide monthly safety and training classes • Implement all current laws and regulations pertaining to student safety, driver qualifications and licensing requirements, and vehicle maintenance and reporting • Educate drivers on effective parent and student communication and interaction Qualifications: • College degree and 2 years transportation supervisory experience or 6 years in transportation supervision • Valid California Commercial Driver’s License with passenger and air brake endorsements • Valid California Special School Bus Driver’s Certificate • Clean driving record • Drug free (pre-employment and random testing) • Extensive knowledge of California transportation practices, procedures, rules, regulations, and laws • Experience supervising personnel • Proficient use of common software applications (i.e. Excel, Word) • Able to demonstrate oral and written communication skills • Familiarity with California laws pertaining to school buses and driver procedures • Knowledge of San Diego County
