 Job Description        

The Director of Public Policy and External Affairs has agency-wide responsibility for public policy and advocacy work focused on the strategic priorities and populations including families, immigrants, older adults served by Jewish Family Service of San Diego. The Director of Public Policy Director and External Affairs will report to the CEO and work in collaboration with additional stakeholders, including the COO, key agency staff and Public Affairs Committee, a committee of the JFS Board of Directors. A key responsibility of this position is identifying potential new relationships, maintaining current relationships and cultivating opportunities to position the organization for greater impact. The Director of Public Policy and External Affairs will be highly skilled in communicating with various stakeholders. In addition, the individual will be intellectually curious, engaged on social issues, and highly motivated to drive social change through the power of communication and relation



Skills Needed: • Impeccable interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written • Ability to support, cultivate, and anticipate the needs of organization as it relates to partnerships and strategic alliances • Exceptional project management and leadership skills • Ability to absorb, retain, and accurately represent organizational services and opportunities • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced organization; enthusiastic, entrepreneurial, “can do” attitude • Ability to lead and work as part of a cross-functional team • Ability to manage stressful and highly visible situations with a calm and professional demeanor Experience and Education: The ideal candidate will possess: • Five to seven years or more of experience in public policy, advocacy work coalition building and/or government • Knowledgeable about local, state and federal government operations and experienced in the legislative process • Previous experience in successfully engaging with elected officials, government em
