 Job Description        

The San Diego Air & Space Museum is seeking a Controller to join our outstanding team. The Controller leads and manages the day-to-day fiscal operations and financial reporting providing timely reports to senior management, the President & CEO, Finance Committee and Board of Directors consistent with generally accepted accounting principles. The Controller also manages the museum’s human resource functions, insurance, and annual audit. In addition, the Controller will provide accounting assistance to the Museum’s for-profit Low-Speed Wind Tunnel (LSWT). This position requires both high-level financial management and hands-on accounting. The Controller will temporarily be the sole full-time accounting staff for the museum. An additional Bookkeeper position is expected to be added within 3 to 9 months as needed. SDASM is seeking a proactive financial professional who understands their role in providing guidance and recommendations regarding all financial decisions.



• Comprehensive understanding of nonprofit financial and grant management. • Thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting principles specifically as they apply to nonprofit organizations including recently implemented FASB changes. • Thorough understanding of the legal environment of human resources including all direct functions of HR. • 8 – 10 years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit financial management. • Experience in presenting financial information to non-financial peers. • Experience with risk management and insurance. • Professional, team player with a high-level of emotional intelligence. • Strong written and verbal communication skills. • Experience in a variety of software applications including accounting software (QuickBooks), database management, Microsoft Office applications. • Experience managing the human resource functions of a nonprofit organization.
