About Francis Parker School: Francis Parker School is a coeducational independent day school in San Diego, California with 1235 students in grades JK-12. Founded in 1912, the school’s mission is “to create and inspire a diverse community of independent thinkers whose academic excellence, global perspective and strength of character prepare them to make a meaningful difference in the world”. Overlooking Mission Valley, two separate campuses serve students in Lower School – junior kindergarten through 5th grade; Middle School – 6th grade through 8th grade and Upper School – 9th grade through 12th grade. As a college preparatory school Parker offers a comprehensive program that includes twenty-five advanced placement courses as well as a rich palette of electives – all designed to meet the individual needs of our students. Job Description: Francis Parker School is seeking a dynamic and energetic leader to become its new Athletic Director. The Director will work with the senior leadership to implement Parker’s Strategic Plan, and be responsible for all aspects of a comprehensive athletic program, ranging from varsity athletics to physical education. The Director must be committed to supporting athletics and scholarship at the highest level of excellence. The Director will report to the Head of Upper School.



Essential Duties/Responsibilities: • Promote athletics within the school community as an integral part of the student experience, understanding that athletics are fundamentally educational, and promote health and well-being. • Partner with the Admissions Office in outreach efforts to identify student-athletes who sustain excellence in athletics while engaging fully in the life of the School and serving as exemplars of Parker’s commitment to educating the whole child. • Work with communications and marketing departments to promote the value of the Parker athletic program. • Formulate and implement athletic policies and procedures in accordance with rules and regulations of the School, the conference(s), and the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). • Ensures gender equity, diversity, and inclusion in all athletic programs. • Ensure the health and safety of all students in the athletic program, overseeing the athletic training program, policies and protocols. • Ensure that all coaches, trainers and faculty are performing their duties at the very highest level of professionalism, and are properly trained in all organizational and philosophical aspects of the athletic and physical education program. • Oversee mentoring of new coaches, trainers and faculty; establish programs for the orientation and in-service training of new coaches, trainers and faculty. • Ensure best practices in teaching and coaching, and oversee a system of ongoing professional development and annual evaluation of all coaches, trainers and faculty. • Annually update the athletic coaches manual; ensure all coaches, trainers and faculty review and adhere to the policies and standards set forth. • Serve as a resource and consultant to all coaches and faculty in matters of team management, coaching methods, and general school philosophy and expectations. • Ensure compliance with all local, regional, state and national regulations and policies, including human resource laws. • Prepare, submit, and oversee an annual budget. • Oversee scheduling of all athletic contests, ensuring they are consistent with school-wide policies related to student wellness and balance. • Ensure proper maintenance and security of all athletic equipment and athletic facilities, fields and courts, working in coordination with the Director of Risk and Asset Management. • Ensure fairness and equity within and amongst all sports. • Represent the school at various state, regional and national athletic associations. • Support the school, its mission and leadership. Qualifications: • B.A. or B.S. required; M.A. in Education, Leadership, or Administration preferred. • Minimum of 7 years of high school head coaching and/or high school athletics administration required; a minimum of three years athletics administration preferred. • Strong management and team building skills, and financial acumen. • Extensive knowledge of local, regional, state and national athletic rules and regulations; including those related to college athletic recruitment. • Excellent writing and public speaking skills, complemented by a demonstrated ability to effectively interact with students, staff and campus leaders in a variety of environments. • Ability to motivate and lead coaches, faculty, staff and student-athletes to achieve success. • Proven ability to build healthy relationships with student-athletes, parents and the local community. • Commitment to academic and athletic excellence.
