Education and Outreach Intern

 Job Description        

The Education and Outreach Intern will be dedicated to engaging youth within the San Diego River watershed, with the purpose of teaching kids the importance and value of our local ecosystem through hands-on, citizen science projects. This person will help to plan and execute various field studies and raise awareness of the challenges urban rivers face. This intern will also be responsible for representing the San Diego River Park Foundation out in the community through outreach. Description of Duties: Educate local youth ranging from K - 12 on the different ecosystems found within the San Diego River watershed through plant, animal and insect identification, field studies and guided hikes Educate kids on the identification and classification of macro invertebrates as they relate to the health of the San Diego River Assist in the preparation and maintenance of all education materials, field kits and lesson plans Data entry and database management

 

 Qualifications        

Must be at least 18 years of age Must believe in the mission and share the values of the San Diego River Park Foundation and have a passion for the environment Ability to communicate effectively, in both oral and written form Comfortable working with students of various age levels, out in the field Ability to travel throughout the San Diego River watershed

 

 Additional Information        

Time Commitment: 10 - 12 hours per week. Includes some weekends.
