School in The Park

 Job Description        

The San Diego Natural History Museum is looking for a passionate educator to support the School in the Park program (SITP). This Museum program for grades 4 Ė 7, provides week long science education experiences to area school children. The School in the Park Educatorís goal is to help diverse school groups interpret the natural world through engaging science based activities; practice the museumís mission through stewardship and encourage a life-long learning. Major Responsibilities: * Support instructor for School in the Park Program * Under supervision of School Programs Manager, update or create new curriculum lessons according to Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) * Create, prep and maintain supplies needed to teach classes * Manage large and small groups of students in a classroom, in a museum gallery and outdoors * Demonstrate strong professional and interpersonal skills to work alongside classroom teachers SITP and Museum staff * Duties as assigned



* 2+ years of experience developing and teaching educational programming and curricula * Prior experience in an informal education setting and formal setting (preferred) * Excellent teaching skills * Strong communication and organizational skills * Proficiency in classroom technology (i.e. promethean board, IPad) * Familiarity and knowledge of NGSS * BA or BS in education, natural science or other related degree * California Teaching Certificate desired but not required * Spanish desirable but not required
