Lead Classroom Educator

 Job Description        

The San Diego Natural History Museum is looking for a lead classroom educator for the School in the Park (SITP) program. The School in the Park program is for grades 4 – 8 and provides week long science education experiences to area school children. The School in the Park Educator’s goal is to help diverse school groups interpret the natural world through engaging science based activities; practice the museum’s mission through stewardship and encourage a life-long learning. This passionate educator will also teach in-museum classes when SITP is not in session and be a part of the teaching team for the Museum’s summer camp, an 8-10-week program for youth in grades Pre-K through middle school. This educator would be one of the educators for several weeks of camp.



• BA or BS in education, natural science or other related degree • 2+ years of experience developing and teaching educational programming and curricula • Prior experience in an informal education setting and formal setting (preferred) • Excellent teaching and classroom management skills • Strong communication and organizational skills • Strong writing skills • Ability to work individually and be a strong team player • Proficiency in classroom technology (i.e. promethean board, iPad) • Familiarity and knowledge of NGSS • California Teaching Certificate desired but not required • Spanish desirable but not required
