 Job Description        

JOB PURPOSE: College Changes Communities! Barrio Logan College Institute (BLCI) is an award-winning nonprofit that has been preparing underserved students for college since 1996. College and Career Coaches transform underserved communities by guiding students to be the first in their families to go to college. Through the San Diego Promise Neighborhood (SDPN) initiative, BLCI is able to bring these services to partner schools. The College and Career Coach serves as a conduit of the San Diego Promise Neighborhood’s (SDPN) program culture, mission, goals, objectives, and theory of change with students in grades 7-12. College and Career Coaches will serve as mentors for students in 7th to 12th grade. Coaches will meet one on one with students throughout the academic year, meet with parents to discuss academic progress, plan college field trips, and other responsibilities geared towards creating a college going culture. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: -Provides information regarding academic planning, post-secondary education opportunities, college entrance requirements, scholarship and financial aid resources; -Provides support and education to students regarding educational and extracurricular development as necessary. -May be placed with Middle or High School Students

 

 Qualifications        

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: -Bachelor’s degree in child development, social work/services, or related field -Experience working in a community, school or neighborhood based service organization -Knowledge in the areas of academic support, outreach, community education, youth development, social justice, and advocacy -Must possess the ability to work with a diverse cultural population -Provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States -Pass background check PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: -Knowledge of early child development and learning theories -Bilingual (English/Spanish) -Knowledge or familiarity with the San Ysidro and/or Barrio Logan area

 

 Additional Information        

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: -Part-time, not to exceed 30 hours per week based on grant funding during the summer -Hours to increase to 35+ in the fall -Non-exempt, permanent -Compensation: $18/hour WORK LOCATION: -Barrio Logan College Institute, 1625 Newton Avenue, # 200, San Diego, CA 92113 -San Ysidro High School, 5353 Airway Rd, San Diego, CA 92154 -Events in San Diego as needed INERESTED APPLICANTS: Submit cover letter and resume to hr@blci.org
