Family Support Specialist - First 5 First Steps - East County

 Job Description        

Home Start, founded in 1972, is a non-profit social services agency dedicated to preventing child abuse and neglect in San Diego County, We are currently seeking a Family Support Specialist to deliver in-home services to support healthy & secure attachments between parents & children in accordance with Healthy Families of America & First Steps procedures. Duties and responsibilities: 1. Develop/implement curriculum using Healthy Families of America model and PAT curriculum tailored to the needs of each family. 2. Provide case management including identification of family needs and goals & monitor progress. 3. Deliver supportive services including counseling, crisis intervention, mentoring & parent education. 4. Educate families on child development and developmental milestones. 5. Identify protective factors within family systems that need strengthening and skill building & develop plan to address. 6. Develop & deliver parenting groups to support protective factors and program goals. 7. Provides support to families in identifying and obtaining community resources. 8. Maintains a flexible working schedule to accommodate familiesí schedule. 10. Maintains accurate and timely case records documenting all services provided. 11. Maintains monthly reporting and data entry as required by the contract. 12. Assures security of confidential information and materials. 13. Networks and develops relationships with various community service agencies. 15. Attends agency, program and collaborative meetings as assigned. 16. Accepts direction and reports to Family Support Worker Supervisor or Program Manager direct supervision. 17. Attends and participates in training as appropriate.



Bachelorís degree in social work, child development or related human services field required and Bilingual (English/Arabic) highly preferred. An AA Degree with 2 years of home visiting experience may be substituted for a Bachelor's Degree. Demonstrated experience with in-home, low income family-based services required. Knowledge of infant mental health highly desirable. Must have demonstrated ability to engage difficult to reach families in services, be culturally sensitive and respect diversity and have the ability to provide support, structure, empathy, sound judgment, insight into human behavior and family relations. Strong organizational skills and effective communication skills are essential to this position. Knowledge of East San Diego County and community resources a plus. Must be a team player and be able to work independently. Computer literate as appropriate.
