 Job Description        

The Education Manager will primarily be focused on development and implementation of transformative education programs and curricula related to the SDMoM’s Race Are We So Different? exhibit and the exhibits associated with the School in the Park program. The Education Manager must bring a passion for creating and implementing impactful learning environments (physical and digital) with a focus on anti-racism, systemic injustice, colonization, cultural anthropology, and human variation. The Education Manger position reports directly to the Chief Financial and Operating Officer and works collaboratively with the Director of Decolonizing Initiatives, other staff and volunteers throughout SDMoM, with the School in the Park team, and with colleagues throughout Balboa Park.



•Minimum 5 years of experience in the education, social justice, non-profit or museum sector. •Current valid California teaching credential (preferred but not required). •Experience leading learning experiences, whether in a classroom, workshop, professional development environment, or consultancy practice. •Experience in developing curriculum. •Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with a diverse range of groups and organizations. •Experience and ability to observe and respond to children’s needs, emergencies and conflicts that may occur during a school day. •Understanding of equity, inclusion, and racial justice practices in the education sector or museum sector. •Experience and ability to cultivate open and conscious dialogue around race, class, and equity. •Demonstrated understanding of the colonial legacy of museums, systemic and structural racism, and the complexity of colonization’s impact on Black, Indigenous, and People of Color communities.


 Additional Information        

Annual Salary: $50,000 - $60,000 negotiable, depending on experience. Our hiring practices are rooted in approach driven by a focus on equitability and sustainability. Specifically, SDMoM offers an exceptional employee benefits package, including medical, dental and vision and life insurance coverage, as well as short and long term disability benefits. Staff receive 10 days of annual vacation leave which increases incrementally, with an additional 12 paid holidays per year.
