About Francis Parker School: Francis Parker School is a coeducational independent day school in San Diego, California with 1300 students in grades JK-12. Founded in 1912, the school’s mission is “to create and inspire a diverse community of independent thinkers whose academic excellence, global perspective and strength of character prepare them to make a meaningful difference in the world”. Overlooking Mission Valley, two separate campuses serve students in Lower School – junior kindergarten through 5th grade; Middle School – 6th grade through 8th grade and Upper School – 9th grade through 12th grade. As a college preparatory school Parker offers a comprehensive program that includes twenty-five advanced placement courses as well as a rich palette of electives – all designed to meet the individual needs of our students. Job Description: This opening is for the 2019-2020 school year, approximately 30-35 hours per week. The School is seeking a teacher with experience teaching elementary school choral and instrumental music. Responsibilities include helping to create lessons for and instructing students in grades K-5; working collaboratively within the music/drama department; and communicating closely and effectively within the school community. In addition to their teaching responsibilities, faculty members participate in other components of the life of the school, including committees, meetings and supervision duties.

 

 Qualifications        

Qualifications: Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree with a music education focus, and a teaching credential (and/or an advanced degree with a focus on music education) is desirable. Prior music teaching experience is required. The successful applicant will be able to instruct students with a variety of musical instruments, be able to accompany students with the piano, be able to work as a strong team and faculty member, have an abiding interest in helping young people to engage with music and experience success in musicianship, and embrace Parker’s unswerving commitment to being a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community that creates a culture of respect for all.

 

 Additional Information        

Salary and Benefits Francis Parker School is committed to attracting and retaining the highest quality faculty and staff through a substantial compensation plan, including competitive salary. This associate teacher position is paid hourly (approximately 30-35 hours per week), with prorated benefits, ranging from $13.75 - $17 per hour, depending on experience and educational background.
