About Francis Parker School: Francis Parker School is a coeducational independent day school in San Diego, California with 1300 students in grades JK-12. Founded in 1912, the school’s mission is “to create and inspire a diverse community of independent thinkers whose academic excellence, global perspective and strength of character prepare them to make a meaningful difference in the world”. Overlooking Mission Valley, two separate campuses serve students in Lower School – junior kindergarten through 5th grade; Middle School – 6th grade through 8th grade and Upper School – 9th grade through 12th grade. As a college preparatory school Parker offers a comprehensive program that includes twenty-five advanced placement courses as well as a rich palette of electives – all designed to meet the individual needs of our students. Job Description: The Middle School Academic Resource Center Teacher works with small groups and individual students in grades 6 – 8, teaching study skills, re-teaching and/or reviewing material from the Middle School curriculum. See general duties below. This is a temporary, hourly position for the remainder of the school year. The hours are generally Monday through Thursday from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM, plus any required meetings.



Essential Duties/Responsibilities: • Planning for individual students • Read student history, report cards, testing reports (if available) • Obtain student schedule; establish contact with student’s advisor, teachers, parents • Be familiar with course syllabi, textbooks and handouts. • Obtain current textbooks and assignment sheets from teachers; be familiar with teacher On Campus pages. • Keep daily records of sessions with students in database • Write individual comments at the end of each trimester documenting what has been done in the Learning Center; evaluating the student’s progress; indicating the plan for the coming quarter. • Discuss plans, progress, concerns regarding individual students with Director. • Communicate by e-mail and in person with classroom teachers as needed. • Communicate by phone or e-mail with parents as needed. • Attend Back-to-School Night in September. • Attend Learning Center Staff meetings • Attend Faculty Professional Growth Days (during the school year) • Attend student/teacher meetings as needed • Attend appropriate weekly MS Grade Level meetings Qualifications: • Minimum of three years teaching and/or tutoring experience • Familiarity with independent, college preparatory, middle school curriculum • Understanding learning processes and ability to individualize instruction • Ability to work with a team of colleagues, classroom teachers, and parents • Excellent oral and written communication skills • Facility with Mac programs and Google Docs

Salary and Benefits: This is a Part-Time position (Monday – Thursday; 1:30 – 4:30 p.m.) and is not eligible for benefits.
