Founded in 1912, the school’s mission is “to create and inspire a diverse community of independent thinkers whose academic excellence, global perspective and strength of character prepare them to make a meaningful difference in the world”. Overlooking Mission Valley, two separate campuses serve students in Lower School – junior kindergarten through 5th grade; Middle School – 6th grade through 8th grade and Upper School – 9th grade through 12th grade. As a college preparatory school Parker offers a comprehensive program that includes twenty-five advanced placement courses as well as a rich palette of electives – all designed to meet the individual needs of our students. Job Description: The Upper School Academic Resource Center Teacher works with small groups and individual students in grades 9-12 in one or more curricular areas; teaches study skills, re-teaches; and/or reviews content.

 

 Qualifications        

Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Instructional • Design lessons and provide support for students across the curriculum in grades 9-12 (individual or small-group) • Partner with ARC teachers to design strategies for study skills • Review content with students and re-teach when needed • Conduct classroom observations to gather information that will support ARC students • Co-teach academic skills course for 9th grade students • Assist students remotely via Google Drive Administrative • Maintain daily attendance and progress notes for ARC students • Monitor student OnCampus progress • Provide written narrative comments for parents of ARC students • Communicate with parents and faculty (as needed) to support student progress • Collaborate with Upper School Learning Specialist • Assist with provision of student testing accommodations as needed • Attend the following: • Back to School Night in September • Faculty Professional Development • ARC team meetings (weekly) • Additional trainings and meetings relevant to responsibilities of position Qualifications: • A degree (B.A., B.S., or higher) plus a minimum of three years teaching/tutoring experience at the high school level • Familiarity with independent, college preparatory school curriculum and have specialization in one or more areas of the curriculum (i.e. chemistry, physics, biology, algebra, calculus, and geometry) • Excellent oral and written communication skills • Understanding learning processes and ability to individualize instruction • A passionate commitment and desire to work with all types of learners • Being a positive and contributing member of the professional community • Proficiency in the use of technology • Desire to work in a highly collaborative environment • A strong and sincere commitment to professional development in both pedagogy and content area
