 Job Description        

The Controller provides support to the agency as a whole. Works closely with the CEO and the management team to ensure agency runs effectively and efficiently. This position is fast paced with oversight of multiple responsibilities at one time. The primary function of this position is all aspects of financial support. Includes following all general accounting principles, processes all accounts payables and receivables, bank reconciliations and providing support during annual audits. Serve as the Children’s Initiative financial controller. Code and file financial material according to established records management procedures. Process accounts payable ensuring timeliness and accuracy of information. Process accounts receivable, ensuring timeliness, accuracy of codes and appropriate backup. Prepare accurate bank reconciliations and deposits. Administer petty cash according to established procedures. Meet with Directors every month to ensure program budget adherence.



Must be VERY detail oriented and possess exceptional organizational skills. Must be proficient in accounting, including: Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and Invoicing. Must have ability to multi-task, manage multiple demands and priorities. Must have ability to problem solve by identifying, researching and implementing solutions. Must have ability to proficiently use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and QuickBooks. Must have strong written and oral communication skills. Must have ability to conduct oneself in a respectful and professional manner at all times. Minimum BA degree and five years financial experience. Previous Non-Profit experience a plus.

The Children’s Initiative is a non-profit child advocacy agency that works to improve the health, education, safety and well-being of San Diego’s children and youth. The Children's Initiative helps underserved children and families reach their full potential by developing, strengthening, and promoting services, programs, and policies that respond to family and community needs in the areas of health, education, safety, and economic security. This will be approximately 30 hours per week. $25 - $27 / hour plus benefits
