 Job Description        

Position Description: Provides support for the OTD by independently handling many patenting related responsibilities in accordance with the confines of established processes. Inputs and updates database regarding research disclosures, patent applications & patents. Develops electronic filing systems, organizing documents and applications, drafting letters & documents, and notification & alert templates. Inputs, updates & manages database regarding invention disclosures, patent applications, patents, USPTO and outside counsel correspondence. Independently coordinates patent-related documentation between law firms, inventors, HHMI, and Licensing Managers. Monitors and audits various stages of the intellectual property protection and licensing processes & ensures compliance with government and Salk requirements/procedures. Reports invention disclosures to the federal government using iEdison, prepares and files government reports on all government supported invention disclosures.



Education: Required •Bachelor's Degree in relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience: Required •2-3 years of increasingly responsible administrative office support experience. •Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in Technology Transfer •2 years patent experience. •Previous experience with patent databases, docket management and case management systems. •Minimum two (2) years experience using the Wellspring docketing software •Experience entering and maintaining database information. •Minimum one (1) year experience using iEdison the online government reporting database. •Minimum two (2) years patent docketing or patent paralegal experience


 Additional Information        

Special Requirements: •Must be willing to work in an animal-related research environment. •Must be able to work schedule of Monday - Friday. Must be willing to work at a location away from the main campus (but within walking distance) and travel to and from campus as needed (parking is available at both locations). •Occasional flexible schedule and overtime required based on workload and deadlines. •Successful completion of the Institute’s background investigation. •Willing to sign an employee confidentiality agreement Physical Requirements: This position requires constant seeing, adjusting focus, reading, talking, hearing, handling, writing, communicating, and working inside.
