Technical Director

Duties and Responsibilities: • Develop and/or maintain standard house plots for fixtures and equipment. • Develop and/or maintain a maintenance schedule for all technical equipment within the facility. • Work with the La Jolla Music Society Production Manager to implement and plan all LJMS shows which take place in The Conrad. • Advance technical requirements and load in/load out schedule for performances with renters of The Conrad and ensure the spaces are properly prepared for performances. • The TD shall be the primary technical personnel on site for key renter’s performances. • Recruit, hire, and train, technical crew members. • Schedule crew as needed for various types of events and performances. • Process payroll per-event for hourly crew members, security, or others employees as assigned. • Develop and/or maintain safety protocols for staff and crew working on stage or around technical equipment. • The TD may also assist in the non-technical set up of rental spaces as

• At least 5 years of experience in technical management. • A related Bachelor’s degree or certification with Masters in Theatre or MFA preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered. • Exhibit keen attention to detail and analytical skills. • Must demonstrate excellent leadership and communication skills. • Experience scheduling and managing technical crews. • Working knowledge of technical theatrical systems - specifically lighting, sound, video, and rigging.

The Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center is a new facility located in La Jolla, CA. It consists of a 500 concert hall, a 2000 sf flexible performance space, meeting rooms, and outdoor event spaces. This full-time position reports to the Director of Theatre Operations. The TD’s primary role is to ensure the equipment in the theatre is functional, maintained, and safe. They will advance with external and internal renters all technical equipment and labor requirements for events. Direct Reports: Stage Managers, Lighting Technician, Sound Technician, Video Technician, Projectionist, Carpenter/Rigger, etc.
